NEVER use a non detergent oil........
Any good name brand oil will do... but for that old of a engine.... you need some antiwear additive's (zinc in fact) which is almost gone in newer oils (carry the gf4 rating) why? catylitic convertor poisoning....
I'd use rotella 5w-40 in the winter or 15w-40 in the summer. Yes they are diesel oils.... but perfectly fine for a gas engine... and much better for the older engines. Any name brand oil though will do.... theres no cleanest or clearest (which you should NEVER go by color, doesn't tell you squat) oil.... they are all on par (name brands that is)

My 70 Chevelle SS LS6 454 w/ dual holleys, @ 113,000 mi still uses quaker state 10w-30. Since the glazing keeps my compression up I would never use a motor oil product i.e. flush, additives, synthetics.
