I'm going to go with Whitney because she took the song and made it hers, but not to put anything past Dolly she's good in her own right. Different genres both excellent but me being into R & B more I like Whitney's version better.

They couldn't trust Whitney Houston to sing the National Anthem and played a recorded version behind her.

My dad loves Dolly. I am not a country music fan. Not a fan of Whitney either. But, I am familiar with both versions. I like Dolly's better. You can hear the heartbreak in her voice.

Oh gosh. You cannot compare the two. Each in their own way was beautiful. Personally, I love Dolly's version better, but that's because I think Whitney has always been overrated.
