Always the best advice, if you're not sure about any symptoms, is to consult your doctor.
Alternatively contact NHS Direct on 0845 46 47.
A former boss of mine was diagnosed as having IBS and he was told to give up dairy products as much as possible.
In particular he was advised to substitute Soy Milk for Cows milk, which didn't please him at all.
But the sweetened soy milk really isn't at all bad. May take a little getting used to, but it's worth it apparently to reduce the discomfort.

The reason they call it irritable bowel SYNDROM is because it is exactly that.....a syndrom, not a disease. This doesn't make it any less real to the sufferer, but it can make it a lot easier for some NHS GPs when making their diagnosis because often they use it as a condition to cover everything and so therefore it is an easy copout for them. If you can get some proper tests done (insist on a cat scan) which are conclusive you should get to the root of the problem. IBS is normally brought on by many things , stress, worry or nerves . A relative of mine was treated for IBS on the NHS for 15 years she never got any better, but when she finally went private, she discovered that she had a problem with her colon and was treated and cured! Nine days is not long however, you may only have a virus.

IBS is what you have when test all come back negative.
It is a different set of symptoms for everyone.
It depends what your symptoms are for it to be controlled by diet. eg mine is a runny tummy, cramp pains and bloated feelings. A friend who has it is constipated more often than not. The high fibre diet she follows would have me on the toilet 24/7.

I think I have IBS cos for the last 9 days I have been terrible. The moment I get up, I have to go to the toilet and sit there in agony and then such pain. Wanted to go to my doctors and thought I could survive and then been drinking heavily ever since and wondered if that is the reason. Pain for the last 9 days and got a doctors appointment in 5 days and really scared what they will find. My grandmother and cousin had bowel cancer.

Hi ive suffered with IBS for 10years now,the problems you would have is bad stomach pain like muscles contracting on the left hand side only also the pain sometimes goes into your hip.You would feel sick also with this pain and sometimes feel faint and pale.Your bowels would be very loose and will stink once you have emptyed your bowels.Once you have been to the toilet the pain will go gradually. The diet will have to be a heathly one, salads, brown bread etc,veg and fruit, not alot of diary. The foods which would upset you is full milk, cheese, hot and spicy foods, wine, thats what upsets my stomach. You need to go and see your GP and he might refer you to the hospital for a proper dignoises and tests.Good Luck

LOL; IBS is Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Physical symptoms of this can include a bloated stomach, which can be painful to the touch, needing to go a lot, and when going, it is difficult to pass. Try to remember what you eat before this flares up, common causes are bread and dark meat (aka, beef).
