if this fable was read to you as a kid and you understood it, raise your hand.
I just researched it on Wikipedia and Yahoo search and the story refers to the "hare" as a "she". The moral to the story is that "slow and steady [SHE] wins the race". Woohoo...women rock! Are there any other fables or stories you can tell us where women win.

there is no latin version of the Hare and the Tortoise. Maybe you're thinking about the modern soul album.

A HARE one day ridiculed the short feet and slow pace of the Tortoise, who replied, laughing: "Though you be swift as the wind, I will beat you in a race." The Hare, believing her assertion to be simply impossible, assented to the proposal; and they agreed that the Fox should choose the course and fix the goal. On the day appointed for the race the two started together. The Tortoise never for a moment stopped, but went on with a slow but steady pace straight to the end of the course. The Hare, lying down by the wayside, fell fast asleep. At last waking up, and moving as fast as he could, he saw the Tortoise had reached the goal, and was comfortably dozing after her fatigue.

If it refers to the hare as a she, "she" lost the race to the turtle. so the winner of the race is not defined as he or she. only the hare's sex was determined. The turtle's sex is still to be discovered. But I didn't need that story to tell me that women are the ones who rule.

Hmmm....I think I'd want to read it in Latin to see if the hare was a she before coming to that conclusion. But then again, women always rock!
