It doesn't matter (as some people have posted) if it's domestic or international since everyone goes through the same security station. You can bring hand luggage on board now but no liquids or creams. This means no makeup, no lotions, nothing like that. I was able to bring on my nose spray though because it was under a certain amount of mg but I don't know how little it has to be. We weren't allowed to buy any water and take it on the plane even after passing security. I saw a woman bring a bottle on board and asked her how she did it - I guess there's a procedure for asking the person at the counter for the water and they made some kind of mark on the bottle to show it had been bought at an airport vendor.

Due to enhanced security measures liquids, gels, lotions and other items of similar consistency will not be permitted in carry-on baggage. These types of items must be packed in your checked baggage.

i know some things your not allowed to take on carry on: water bottles, scissors, lighters, things of a flamable nature, etc.
you can take almost anything but stuff that can explode if its not on carry on. you should probably contact an airline anyways and ask them.

depends if it is a trans Atlantic flight or not...but generally anything that could be construed as a weapon. then if it is a flight to/from Europe you can take even less...no liquids..that includes bottled water, makeup, etc....but they will help you out with that at the ticket counter (so you can put stuff in your suitcase before you check it) and at security...
