i just took my 1989 ford festiva to the shop do to a wrapping or ticking noise in the engine, the guy told me the engine is shot and he wanted $10,000 to fix it, he said if were to just buy another car i would have to deal with this same repair in about 3-5 years anyhow because all the cars arent taken care of anymore and are junk.

Go to another shop. !!!!

Believe it or not, your vehicle has one of the most dependable powertrains ever.

It's a very simple engine & if taken care of can last much longer than the (not very attractive, albeit) sheet metal around it !

Ford sold lots of them & I rarely saw them in the shop for anything other than normal maintenance.

If Good basic transportation is what you need & want go elsewhere & get another diagnose.

This guy is a crook as many of them are. Just take the car to another shop and see what they say. If they say the same, don't fix it and keep driving until the car dies. After that take $10,000 they asked for repair and put it as a down payment on a new car. No 17 year old car is worth a $10,000 repair, unless it's a collectible car. Ford Festiva is not a collectible car.

Good luck.

You need to tell this shop person he is full of sh-t.The car is worth how much.If you put a motor in then what would the car be worth.Check around call Auto parts co.that sells motors see what they cost.Check another shop get prices from difference places if you have to spent 10,000 get another car but not a ford ,if you buy a used car have it check out but not at the person that asked 10.000 to fix your car that you have now.

You can buy a brand new engine for less then $5,000 that probably has enough horsepower to compensate for 2 cars. That $10,000 nonsense doesn't sound right, especially for a 1989. For $10,000 you can buy a nearly new car.

if the motor is shot then a new motor is 3500 at the most. a used junk yard motor 500 thats way to high. Go or call around . It may only need new lifters. or a rod. that guy is full of it. You can get a crete engine brand new from ford for cheap

Dude, Kelly BlueBook wont even value that 1989 car at $10,000 in mint condition. He's ripping you off!
Get another used car for a lot cheaper.

$10,000 dollars to fix a car that is worth about $1,000?

That's ridiculous, there is no possible way it could cost that much.

Either find a new mechanic or get another car.
