Buy the one you want to buy. As long as it has the features you want , there's no such thing as a bad computer for home... unless all it has on it is business apps.
Go to dell.com or gateway.com and look at their selections. You'll see what I mean.

iMac, hands down.
1, Design. No tower, the whole computer fits in the 2" behind the monitor. Compact keyboard. Ease of assembly. Plug 'n' play.
2. User friendliness. All the tools you need are at your fingertips. Everything is intuitive. No more going to the Start menu to search for what you need.
3. Virus protection. Macs are immune to viruses and spyware. You don't even need Norton.
4. Stability. Mac's OS is Unix-based. Never crashes. Never breaks down. No SNAFUs. No more tearing out your hair at lost files or e-mails. Don't even bother with an extended warranty.

It depends on what you are going to use it for.
If you just want a regular, everyday PC to surf the net, send email, play games and whatnot, go with a PC (Dell, HP/Compaq) they are all basically the same. Some have better customer support than others. Personally, I think eMachines support totally sucks and I'd never buy an eMachine. The other have been decent (I'm a computer tech and I've dealt with most customer service)
If you are going to do videos or music editing... stuff like that, go with a Mac.

I use a PC. My wife uses a Mac. My pc has been problem after problem, and when it's down I use my wife's Mac.
My PC repairman is kept busy with PC's. When I asked him if he ever sells used MAC's he said no because people don't part with them. He has only repaired one Mac ever and it was 10 years old. Mac is far superior for music and video purposes. Mac's are more expensive.

AlienWare Hands Down is better than everything else. It can be a little pricey but it is the best.
