Covering a textbook is as easy as wrapping a present. It takes just a few minutes and will help your books last longer.
Size the Cover
Steps:
1. Gather the materials: the textbook, a ruler or tape measure, a brown-paper grocery bag, a pen, scissors and clear tape.
2. Measure the height and width of the textbook.
3. Calculate the following numbers: Add 5 inches to twice the width; add 2 inches to the height.
4. Mark off a piece of the grocery bag of these dimensions using the tape measure and pen, then cut the piece.
Tips:
Cut in straight lines. If you don't, the cover will be harder to make properly.
If you don't have a brown grocery bag, try thick construction paper.
Make the Cover
Steps:
1. Spread out the piece you cut flat on a table.
2. Center the book vertically, making sure the top and bottom edges of the book are parallel to the top and bottom edges of the cover. There should be about an inch of cover on the top and on the bottom.
3. Fold the cover up at the bottom, making a crease at the bottom of the book. Do the same from the top. Then remove the book and fold along the creases for the entire width of the cover. The cover is now as tall as your book.
4. Place the book back onto the cover, lining up the top and bottom edges of the book along the top and bottom edges of the cover. They should line up perfectly; if they don't, redo the above steps.
5. Slide the book towards the right edge of the cover, stopping 1 1/2 - 2 inches from the edge.
6. Fold the cover up from the right, making a crease at the right edge of the book. Remove the book as before and fold along the crease for the entire height of the cover.
7. Insert the back cover of the book into the pocket you've created. Push it in all the way and close the book.
8. Fold the left end of the cover over the book's front cover, making a crease at the edge of the front cover. Fold along this crease for the entire height of the cover.
9. Insert the front cover of the book into this new pocket. Close the book.
10. Secure the cover with clear tape: one or two pieces for each of the four corners.
11. Decorate at will!

This book cover is created from a brown paper grocery bag and can be made to fit most book sizes.
Steps:
1. Cut along the side seam of a brown paper grocery bag and cut out the bottom of the bag. You will be left with a rectangular sheet of paper that measures approximately 17 by 36 inches.
2. Place the paper horizontally on a flat work surface - logo side up.
3. Set your book on top of the paper. Center the book and use a pencil to mark the paper along the top and bottom edges of the book.
4. Remove the book from the paper and fold the top and bottom edges toward the center of the paper from the marked lines. Your book cover will now be the same height as your book.
5. Set the book, open, back on the paper, aligning it with the folds. Center the book and fold the left and right edges of the paper over the front and back covers of the book.
6. Check that the left edge of the paper reaches halfway across the inside front cover and that the right edge covers the same distance on the back cover when the book is closed. Trim the right and left edges of the paper if necessary.
7. Keep the left and right edges of the paper folded in on the front and back covers of the book.
8. Tape each fold in place at the top and bottom of the paper to form pockets for the front and back covers of the book. Use transparent cellophane tape and be sure not to tape the book itself.
9. Decorate the book cover with crayons, stickers or rubber stamps.
Tips:
You can use comics from the newspaper instead of a brown paper bag.
Use brown or white craft paper instead of a grocery bag if you want a tidier look.

Its easy, open the book, lay it on an old piece of wallpaper or brown wrapping paper, cut round it, so about an inch and a half of paper overlaps the book all around. Then fold the outer edges over the book ends, then do the same with the top and bottom edges. The cellotape the 4 corners where the overlaps meet. VOILA!

ah happy memories...
.remember using anything....wrapping paper, magazines, wallpaper, newspaper was especially effective and then i cut out bits of headlines that related oddly with the subject and stuck on photos and and different odd bits like bus tickets etc.....
the actual covering of it is something you have to practise...hard to explain but here goes
> make sure you open book put on top of rectangle of paper thats about 2-3 inches larger than the open book all the way round
>do back cover first (it doesn't have to be but you must starrt with one may as well be this)
> loosely fold over the outside edge and close so that the paper is tucked inside the book
>now hold it and opening the book a little stick in place with a lil bit of tape
>now do the same with the front cover
>snip the paper in the middle down to the spine of the book
>now fold down the top margin of paper onto the back cover
> for neatness fold a triangle back from the corner
>tape it in place then do the same with the bottom margin
>now do the same on the front cover and tape all the inside edges well.....
*hey presto a fabulous new book....
it would be easier to show you with pics but thats not poss here

This is the way we did it in my day. Take a brown grocery bag, cut off the bottom and slit it up one of the sides. Lay your book in the middle and draw a pencil line at the top and bottom of the book. Fold those lines down inward (opposite of the print). Lay your book in the center. If the paper extends more than half way longer than the book cut it down some. Then with the binding of the book in the center pull the flaps over to enclose the ends of the book. Done.

yup...
Take the paper and cut a rectanlge - must be 3 inches wider than the book on each end and 3 inches longer above and below the book.
Make a 3" Fold on the top and bottom of the rectangle
Place the book on top and slide the side edge of the cover and the side edge of the back of the book into the folded ends.
Someone above was right, this is dificult to explain. Need a technical writer to put it into words

Well im still at school, and when i have had to do that i have used wrapping paper, thats what most people i know do, but in my middle school we had smaller sized books and our school did make leather covers for us (even though you had to buy them). But my best guess would be to use a good wrapping Paper (at least then you could always recover it again)!
Hope this helps! x

Stick down the end, stretch the rest out in the air, and gently push a 30cm ruler along the book, sticking the plastic down with it.
It's quite hard to explain without being able to show you.
