if Ryan Howard hits 62 home runs, will you consider him the holder of the single season home run record?

Assuming or not...The HR single season leader is Barry Bonds, followed by McGuire & Sosa. If Howard hits 62, he is 4th in my book behind those guys.

Steroids or not...they don't make you hit HR's...they just make you hit them farther. No matter how much enhancing drugs you take, they won't make you a HR hitter...you have to still have the tools to be a good hitter, for any of it to matter. Barry Bonds had great power before he was "assumed" to be on something...Same with McGuire. They had the ability to hit HR's before anyone accused them of anything.

no..unless someone proves that all the others took roids..I dont think they did, McGwire admitted to taking Andro, it was not a band substance, when they said to stop he did, and he cannot be blamed for cheating if a rule didnt exist. Andro and other over the counter supplements can easily add 30-40 lbs to a guy, especially someone who gets paid $$$millions to stay in shape. Remember he hit 49 HRs as a rookie, he was pretty big, before he had money, with all the money he was making it is not unbelievable he could get stronger and bigger I lifted when I was about 24-25, and was able to gain 25 lbs in 2 years using EAS and other legal products, bringing me from 190 to 215

Now if they ever prove, that all 3 Sosa, Mac, and Bonds were on roids, and Howard hits 62, yes he should be the record holder

Yes, I would. There's no way that I can validate the numbers that have been posted by Sosa, Mcguire, or Bonds. They obviously were using performance enhancing drugs and never would have come close to reaching those plateaus without them. If, by some chance, Howard did make it to 62 he should be crowned the new homerun record holder. As a side note, I also believe that Bonds should not be credited for passing Ruth or Aaron. In regards to the person above who said that steroids do not let you hit more home runs than not using them, they must not have been watching Bonds this season. He still is king of the long ball, only now it's the WARNING TRACK long ball.

Absolutely not; the enhancement drug thing may or may not ever be answered, but Bonds, Sosa, McGwire..were all great hitters for a lot of years...any power hitter may hit a streak and hit 62 in a season...if Howard hits 73 he gets the record

I would personally give him that honor (assuming he is not a user of steroids or HGH). The others who hit over 61 seem to be obvious steroid users. Sosa, McGuire, and of course the 'Roid King, Bonds will always be remembered as cheaters. Baseball will not give Howard that honor unless he breaks the "Roid standard of 73 hit by Bonds.

It's a personal thing with each fan. Some will say yes and some no. For me, I say yes. If it happens Roger Maris will still hold the American League home run record with he still holds today. Remember all the steroid home runs over these past years have all taken place in the National League.

Of the steroid free players, yes. Of the ACTUAL holder of the record, NO. But those who have questionable pasts based on 'roids have an asterisk (in my opinion).
