Michigan is probably the best. It has a very diverse scenery, including...
* four Great Lakes
* 3300 miles of shoreline
* thousands of beaches
* 120 lighthouses
* 11000 lakes
* hundreds of islands
* the oldest mountains in North America
* hundreds of waterfalls
* thousands of acres of sand dunes
* millions of acres of forests
* four distinct seasons
Texas, although larger, doesn't have the diversity of Michigan. Plus, it doesn't have distinct seasons. It is way too hot in the summer and it receives very little, if any, snow.
Also, Texas is very prone to natural disasters. Most of the state is in tornado alley, and it gets smacked by many hurricanes (including the worst all time, the 1900 Galveston hurricane).

My favorite state is New York because it is such a diverse place, like you have New York City which is just big and full of people, and actually more people live in NYC then the rest of the state. Then you have cities like Albany and Troy and other's that have just a totally different vibe, and then there's where I live, real upstate NY. You can go to Saratoga and Lake George (yea theres where that Ethan Allen boat sank, but all the other boats are really safe, I was on the ethan allen 2 days before it sank for a class field trip but it was fine) and go to the race tracks and go to about 10 different lakes, or you can just walk around and go into funky little stores. Then theres the outdoors you can go hiking on the 5 minute away mountains, like from every veiw in my town you can see mountains and I love that, you can go fishing, boating, camping, there are just some many things to do in NY and so many nice people, I read somewhere about a survey on different cities all over the world and it found that people in NYC are actually the most polite people, so they are really not rude and they are so friendly, I just love New York. And the fact that we got in the 90's or even 100's and the negatives in the winter is great, and there really isnt a lot of major wether happening's here I think the last time we had and little hurricane it wasnt even a hurrican but it was like 5 yearas ago, so to me everything about NY is perfect.

This is an entirely subjective question. You could ask 50 people and receive 50 dispirate responses.
I can only speak for myself. California is replete with hippies, weirdos and freaks. It is also highly taxed and the price of real estate is out of control. Taxes are a MAJOR issue to me so I have a particular sense of vituperity toward Massachusetts and New Jersey. I live in Connecticut. It's not the best state, but it's most certainly better than NJ or MA.
My favorite is probably Florida. There is no state income tax, and the weather is perfect 364 days a year. I love Florida. New Hampshire and Colorado also rank highly on my list.

Best State: Texas - The history, unique culture, abundant scenery, and friendly attitude of the people cannot be beat. Additionally, I was born here, I live here, and I am full of Texas Pride.
Worst State: Can't pick one because even though I have been to most states, I have never been to one I didn't like. It's America, and we are Americans. I love them all, even the ones I don't agree with.

Thats more of a personal thing. I'm a Michigan boy, and I would say Michigan is the nicest most diverse state in the Union, and that Ohio people are retarded

It's relative. It depends on what you're looking for. If you're a liberal, you probably think California is the best. If you're a conservative, you probably think it's the worst. I live in Ohio and it has it's good and bad points. Personally, I think I would like Idaho or Montana. (wide open spaces, nice climate, low taxes and regulation)

i live in VA. its way too crowded for me though. Arlington is great and all, but too many hispanics. im not being racic, i mean i have many hispanic friends and all but just how they hang out by a bridge where i try to walk to school. me and my friends always have to go through them looking at our behinds and chests. its really annoying!
i would love to live in the country. away from all the noisey and air polluting cities and cars. but also away from the hurricane states. somewhere with all four seasons. maybe Maine. idk. ill find out when im older
