I don't like it either. What's the point of sitting quietly beside someone for an hour and a half when you're supposed to be getting to know each other?

Try doing something like putt-putt golf. It will let you talk to each other, yet still have something else to talk about (the game) when the conversation gets quiet.

I agree that the movies isn't the best 1st dates b/c you can't talk and get to know one another. A movie date should be saved for later on...that is if there is a later on. I would suggest perhaps lunch as lunch usually isn't too expensive and is casual -relaxed or a dinner date. That way you can talk, ask question and get a feel for one another. I always find that lunch or dinner dates are nice b/c they are somewhat short lived- that way if you are not really feeling the person you just go your seperate ways after eating, but if you do like them you can perhaps grab a quick desert afterwards or even do a movie after since you already got to know them a bit! Hope that helped. Best wishes!

No, the one ex-girlfriend I will never get over (since I've been single ever since we broke up in 2000), well, we went on a double-date to the movies. It gave us something to talk about on the ride home (the four of us: me and my best friend and her and her best friend). I think we saw "American Beauty," so there was a lot to talk about. Make sure the movie is not necessarily controversial, but something with enough substance that it will provoke conversation afterwards. Like a day or two later, my best friend called me who was already going out with her best friend and said that she wanted to see me again, but this time not on a double date.

Man, I've been out of the "game" for so damn long. It's depressing.

Well it is if you're interested in getting to know someone. You don't want to go to a movie unless you're not digging the guy or girl and you don't really want to talk much. I would suggest a nice place with music and dancing. You could eat and talk and then maybe do a little dancing. That sounds like a fun date to me.

Yes... because a first date should be about getting to know eachother and having conversation. That way you can decide if a second date is worth it or not.

Well, it means you can't really talk to get to know eachother. However, if you go out to dinner afterwards, it's good because then you have something to discuss during the time if it gets awkward. :)

No, I think it's good. You don't have to talk, and if he's a big jerk laughing really loudly and talking through the whole thing, you get a heads up to end the evening early.
