I often make a stronger connection with songs that were song before I was even thought about. I wonder what your thoughts were on what makes a song by, say, Billie Holiday, Otis Redding or Janis Joplin relative to a 2006 audience.

Unlike a lot not all of today's music when a standard was set by one artist another tried to pass it not copy or imitate they released music without giving up their own uniqueness they used real instruments not beat machines(I Don't Have A Problem With Beat Machine Users) songs dealt with REAL life issues not just A*S shaking & dope slangin I love the soul & r&b music from the late 60's & the 70's it was very empowering and listening to it today makes me feel like not everbody was always blind to the youth or the social events that shaped life in general yeah they partied and got high but I don't remember any artist shootin another or openly beefin with each other it seemed like music in general was about love & life our parents got real concerts not 18 fake thugs with mikes on stage yellin at the crowd or a fake R&B Diva lypsyncing to her pre-recorded self overall the quality was just better I love all types of music and hate to see any genre get stuck in the spin cycle

Okay let me give you an example. Since you have used Janis Joplin--who was before my time too but she totally rocks--I will use the song "Lord, Won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz". Here she describes herself as poorer than her friends because she has no car or TV. She will believe in God if He "buys" her these material things

You know what that means when you connect to older generation music? It means you have an old soul. Congratulations, It also means that your life now will be a better one than others because in your past lives you've already had hard times and trials. Good luck!

All music present to oldies applies to us because the kids of the 70's 60's 50's ect. are basically talking about the same things that the kids today want/ talk about. Drugs, sex, fun times, war anything that we want they also wanted for themselves.
