what IS a guy's ego? and why do they make such a big deal out of it?

I'll take a shot: The male ego is all about "being a man." That's why one of the worst insults a woman can hurl at a guy is anything that attacks his masculinity. See, men are socialized to be tough, to be competitive, to be self-sufficient, to be attractive to the women, to have the most sexual conquests, and most importantly, not to cry. I guess the main reason guys make such a big deal out of it is because this is how they're brought up, but when they get into relationships with women the women want them to be more sensitive, more touchy-feely, more open about their feelings, etc. What's worse is when you have the "nice guys" that hear the same old tired line -- "Let's just be friends" -- while the guys who behave like arrogant swaggering @$$holes get all the girls. See the problem? We have to be macho jerks to get the girls, but once we get them they want us to turn into touchy-feely "gurly-men." Does that help you understand why so many guys criticize women and say that they can't make up their minds?

A guy's ego is the same as a girl's ego. It's how they feel about themselves.

But why this characterization about just guys? I have seen women with very BIG egos too!
