Never caught

The Zodiac Killer was an unidentified serial killer who operated in northern California during the 1960s and 1970s. The killer's name comes from the many taunting letters to the press. His letters included four cryptograms, three of which have yet to be solved. He is believed to have murdered at least five known victims in Benicia, Vallejo, at Lake Berryessa near Napa, and in San Francisco between December 1968 and October 1969.

Thousands of suspects were investigated over the years, and it is the opinion of some investigators that the Zodiac Killer may never even have been turned in as a suspect to law enforcement and questioned.[citation needed]

In April 2004, the San Francisco Police Department officially closed the case, even though the killer's identity still remained unknown, and despite the fact that there was no statute of limitations on murder. The last investigators of the case were S.F.P.D. Homicide Detail Inspectors Michael N. Maloney and Kelly Carroll. These investigators were the first to submit DNA from the case for analysis, which ruled out the lead suspect at least on the small sample taken from one of the Zodiac's letters. Inspector Maloney vociferously objected to the closing of the Zodiac case by his supervisor, Lieutenant John Hennessy.

No, he was never found. There was one main suspect Arthur Leigh Allen, who, in the link to court TV below, was pretty much discredited as being the killer.

The Zodiac Killer, contrary to what people said here, was never caught. Whether the killer is still alive, I have no clue, as I don't know who the killer is.

Wish I could answer, but being European I'm quite oblivious about the facts surrounding the Zodiac Killer. I have heard of him (or her?) but I simply cannot form a theory based on facts that I don't know. I wish you good luck on your forensic science studies, though!

No he is still free and the case remains open. Here is a link for you. By the way he didn't leave tarot cards he picked his victims by their birthday. Hence "Zodiac" killer.

nope. the murders r still unsolved and he's still n the loose

A cereal killer I'm guessing is someone who kills by over loading your body's sugar level on Captain crunch.

I don't believe they have ever caught the illusive cookie crisp killer.

thats pretty funny

No. There are still suspects, though. The official case was closed in 2004 because they couldn't prove anything.
There was a copycat at one time that they did catch and is serving life with possibility of parole.
