when a isp(internet service provider) claims that it gives you 1meg connection, this is never the speed you will get
you have to take into consideration network traffic, ect,
i have a 8meg connnection speed in theory,in reality because of my location i only get 3.5meg and my download speeds are between 250kb/sec and 500kb/sec so for you to get 576kb/sec i would be very happy,a 1meg connection speed should really only get up to 200kb/sec
for a full speed test on your adsl line go to http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp
good luck

Yes most ISPs will say you should get up too about 1meg they are usually talking crap and its just the average speed.

Depends on your area and type of service.

Its NOrmal.. Do you feel that your connection is slow? If you are okay with it dont worr about it . maybe later when you are more computer wise and use it in a daily basis you will want to increase you speed..

It depends on what type of connection. If you're doing dial-up, that's really fast. Right now I'm doing dial-up and I have 48.0 KPS and that's slow, but not for dial-up. What kind of connection are you supposed to have?
