...ridiculously difficult?! It's making me nuts!! (I love it though... WAY better than 2!) I've been playing it off and on for months and I'm stuck in, I think, the third or fourth level!

its impossible to get stuck on 3 since its just a straight battle until cereberus
possible on 4 if u fall in the middle of the game
heres a small walkthrough
go through blue door
destroy all statues
run elevator
destroy demons
enter green door
go to yellow door
go to stairs u fall down
destroy demons
enter big brown door
defeat gigapede
enter small door
end of mission 4
or on mission 5
defeat blobs enter bigdoor
make clock work
grab vajura
go blue door
open cage
get soul of steel
get out of blue door
go to yellow door
walk through fallen stairs
use soul of steel
run elevator
battle twin swords
thats all u need to know

No dont think its to hard but it would depend on what mode you are playing on easy normal or hard.

i thought dmc3 was the easiest to play and had more variety of styles, and weapons, i thought it was pretty smooth gameplay
