adjust the brightness and contrast settings, if this is a CRT (big bulky monitor) the tube may be fading, however there is a program called powerstrip that gives you more control over how bright you can get the tube. If it is a LCD monitor (flat) then your CCFL's might be going out in which case you may want to get the monitor worked on, and or replaced.

if it's a tube monitor, and the brightness knob no longer helps, your monitor is probably on it's way out. There is a temporary fix of messing with a knob on the fly back transformer (big black thing that connects to the tube) inside the monitor case, but only mess in there if you know what you are doing. if it's an LCD, you SOL, the backlight is a florecent tube, and sometimes, they just suck.

Yep, adjust the brightness and contrast using the buttons or dials or whatever on your monitor. I just did this yesterday and its like having a new computer!

ok just joking. Adjust using the little knob under your monitor that has a lightbulb looking icon on it.
