Ok... do you know the meaning of the N word? It means ignorant. Would you want someone walking around calling you ignorant all day every day? Further more, that was a demeaning term white people used to (and still do) call black people. They didn't mean it in a nice way. True, there are blacks who use that word and have adopted it as kind of a term on endearment for their friends, etc.... but, that is not okay either. I'm black, and I don't even say it.

No one should say it in my personal opinion. I yell at other blacks for using the word. I think whats good for the goose should be good for the gander, meaning if we don't want to hear white people saying it, we (blacks) shouldn't. Its such a gray area though because hip-hop culture is becoming so dominant and at the fore front that people are getting mixed cultural signals about what is acceptable and what isn't. I think the safe bet for all interested parties is if you have to even question it, its probably not a good idea.
Iincluded a link for you if you are interested.

It is offensive the word was made just to offend people. Most black people use this word when they are talking to each other and most of the time it doesn't offend them. But they fill offend when white people use the word, because of how white people use it back in the day.

I don't know exactly what the point is, but I have heard African-American people banter around the word "n****r" with a derisive sense in mind, much like some of my gay brothers and sisters call themselves "queer" in order to dilute the negative connotation such words have gotten by bigoted or narrowminded folks who have used them in the past to label and name-call.
For the life of me, I cannot imagine anybody who is Caucasian doing the same kind of thing with the word "honky!"

to me a word is just a word until you attach a meaning to it. And people don't know why it is a bad word. Most blacks don't know the history behind the word but everytime a white person uses it they get upset but it ok for another black person to call them that. That word is not racially specific either, whites can be n!@#%rs also.

The word has been used since the time of slavery to refer to blacks in the most derogatory and degrading way possible. It has the power to destroy a person's spirit by taking him back to a world that he hopes will someday be erased from our collective consciousness.

Its an excuse to become suddenly violent. The man who sucker punched Reginald Denny with a brick claimed that he nearly bashed the truckers head in because he used a racial slur.

They take it as an insult if a white person says it. So it would be bad to be around a bunch of blacks (especially big black women) and say something like "hey N*****, whaz up".
