My daughter is in seventh grade and she recently read that was then, this is now. There is also the movie. Is there any violence or anything bad that I should watch for

I also read the book at that age and think I saw the movie a couple of years later. Movie ratings were different then. If I remember correctly, there's some bad language and a stabbing or shooting (violence) - but if she read the book, she knows the story - it's whether you want her to actually watch it or not. I know it's not any worse than what's on TV today!

Do you mean the movie Now and Then??

Plot Summary
Four childhood friends (Griffith, Moore, O'Donnell and Wilson) gather together to prepare for the birth of Wilson's baby. While together, they reminesce about when they were kids (Birch, Hoffmann, Ricci and Moore respectively) in 1970.

I would not recommend an R rated movie for a 7th grader.

It does have an "R" rating, so there's language and violence
