Click the arrow next to the pencil: you'll get a drop down menu. Click on Clear Search History

You have not specified which browser you are using or which version of it either.

[ Internet Explorer ]
Go to Tools > Internet Options
Click on:
1. Delete Cookies
2. Clear Internet Files
3. Delete History

I know you already tried doing it, but please try again, this always works and if it doesn't, dont know what must be wrong.

[ Firefox ]
Press the following keys : CTRL + SHIFT + DEL
And click the "Clear Private Cache in the winow that pops up.

If this does not help,
Go to Tools>Options anc clear
1. Browser cache (from the Cache tab)
2. Saved Forms
3. History

If neither of these methods work and I dunno why, you can try this utility which does and effective job of cleaning your system.
Its called windows washer and can be downloaded from the link below.

Go to tools, at the top of the page, click on internet options, then click "clear history" then click ok. That will clear the history, that was in your address bar. Before you click ok, set the "days to clear history" to 0, then they will not stay in your address bar. You can always change it back..good luck..

in properties where you deleted all of that change your history to 0 instead of 20 or whatever that may work. Other than that I don't think that is right. I just clear my history files and cookies and that works for me.

Go to tools, internet options, then go to the tab that says content, and click "autocomplete." When you're there... click "clear all forms."
