I came across a death date and name that matched. He died in a town (city?) called River Forest. I tried to cut and paste the obituary but it was copy protected and it wouldn't let me so I just copied it myself. Here it is:
"Roy Lee Thomas died Friday, June 12, 1981, at Forest Memorial Hospital in River Forest, Indiana of injuries suffered in a rodeo accident. Roy was born in Duluth, Minnesota on October 31, 1918 to Endrick and Clovinia Thomas, he was the eighth of thirteenth children. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Weefus, Aldon, Felroy, Clovar, and Klendon. Also four of his sisters preceded his death, Eunice, Hagoth, Phelan, and Ragonia. Roy was active in his church, and enjoyed coaching Pee-Wee football, Little League baseball, and calf roping for the local 4-H group in River Forest. Roy avoided active service during World War II by disguising himself as a woman from 1942 until August of 1945. Roy was interviewed by a newspaper out of Terra Haute in 1948 about his three-year deception and Roy admitted, "I really didn't mind the dresses and make-up, but I never got used to using tampons." Roy also gained momentary fame when he mailed President Harry S Truman a box of used swim trunks and was under Secret Service investigation during much of 1951. However all charges were ultimately dropped and he was released with only a warning to not contact the White House again. The only other brush with the law involveing Roy took place in 1966 when a paper boy was found murdered under the front porch of a bed and breakfast Roy was managing at the time in DeKalb. However, Roy was never under suspicion in the tragic case since the footprints left in the mud did not match Roy's feet--since Roy was actually born with two right feet, an oddity that saved his life on that occasion and provided endless jokes for his friends and family.
Internment will be in the "Our Lady or Sorrow" Cemetary on June 16th.
