Yes, it is illegal... If it's marked wrong or not at all, it's free and they actually have to give you some percentage as well. At least, that's what they have to do here in MI.

I agree with the previous answerer. If there is no price, then you just have to ask for the price. That is why so many places now have scanners set up around the store so you can scan it yourself (I know both Target and Toy-r-Us do this).
If it rings up at a different price than it is marked. Or even if the price displayed on the shelf or rack is different, you can ask for the item at the marked price. Most stores will just give you that price without much hassle. Some places will give you the entire item for free. If the clerk is a jerk and won't do it, ask to talk to a manager or supervisor.
Kmart is really struggling. They closed most of their stores a couple of years ago and have lost most or all of their positive brand identification. Meanwhile, most other chain stores are building new and larger stores.

Yes, K-Mart is pretty badly managed.
Intentional or systematic mis-labeling is illegal everywhere (in the USA at least) as an unfair trade practice. An a occasional error in labeling is not. And they do not have to give it to you at an erroneous price, tho' most stores will as a matter of good will. Some, but not all, communities require posting of prices in self service stores. Again, an occasional missing price is not a problem; regular violation of pricing laws is illegal & may be enforced civilly, or even by criminal prosecution.

I know that false advertising or misleading prices are illegal. It sounds like this Kmart needs some better managment. I would recommend calling the store manager first, if things don't change after that then go somewhere else, when people stop shopping there and they are going out of business they might change their ways.

I wouldn't worry about the way your local K-mart prices its merchandise. It's going to go out-of-business soon. The disappearing deli and one-hour photo center are sure signs of that.
But, to answer your question, no, it's not illegal for merchandise to be mislabeled or not marked at all. If merchandise isn't marked, then you need to ask the price. If it's mislabeled, you can demand it at the labelled priced (but be prepared to fight for this right).

Notify your attorney general for mispriced items. There are scanning laws in some states and you can get reimbursed for mis-priced items. As for no deli or photo, there's no law against that.

OBVIOUSLY THESE STORE MANAGERS FORGET THEIR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES SINCE THEY BECAME A MANAGER, LOL. I DON'T BLAME YOU FROM GETTING IRRITATED WHEN YOU DON'T SEE THE PRICE TAGS ON EACH ITEM. I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS ILLEGAL BUT I AM WITH YOU THAT THESE STORES SHOULD BE PENALIZED FOR HIDING THE PRICE ON CERTAIN ITEMS IN THEIR STORE.
