I would contact my local television stations and newspapers to see if they want to run a human interest/charity story. Good luck. You really should have been marketing your worthwhile cause months ago. At these dinners they usually have donated items that are raffled off also. I guess you didn't solicite businesses for those yet either? I hope you did. One bad event and no one will want to support it in the future.

Have you made some large cards and gone to all the independent stores/shops, requesting permission to place them in their windows?
That would reach all the locals in your area.
Churches maybe? Church book stores?
Police?
