God created the world in his own image....AND, man evolved from apes. So, rationally, God must look like King Kong.

I will explain as a Christian. The creation stories (yes, plural, I'll come to that soon) in the Bible are not literal accounts of the world's beginning intended to explain how it happened, but a general overview of our place in the world and our relationship with God.
In fact, there are two separate creation stories in the Book of Genesis that contradict each other. The first one is about God making the world in six days and resting on the seventh. The second is the one with Adam and Eve, in which the world is created in a slightly different order.
This is not just religious scholars being stupid and contradictory when writing the Book of Genesis. The first creation story is a simplified version of the theory of the Big Bang, evolution and so on.
During the first few days, light and the Earth were created (think: light = first few seconds after the Big Bang; Earth = a few billion years later). Next there was vegetation (existed before the dinosaurs), then animals (dinosaurs), and finally, humans.
It isn't explained in more detail or more precisely in the Bible because Charles Darwin had a hard enough time trying to convince the world of his theory - can you imagine trying to explain it to far more primitive people thousands of years ago?

Adam and Eve were indeed the first humans on earth. The evolution theory is a product of the "Protocols of Zion" aimed at degrading some people who were called Gentiles. I have always asked the question; from the time of the so-called Cro-Mayon man has evelovedinto the smartest man in New York city, has anyone seen a chimpanzee becoming a gorilla? A dog becoming a hyena? Evolution is a theory of deception to take people away from God.
Adam and Eve did have many childrens. God allowed them to live hundreds of years(per the Bible). Everytime Eve was pregnant, she gave birth to twins, two boys or two girls. The boys were allowed to marry their sisters. Thus incest was allowed until the time of Noah.
The theory of Big Bang is very much expounded in the Muslims book:The Koran. First there was a gaseous state where all the elements were floating in orbit. God, according to the Koran in a metaphorical manner, God ordered the earth and the sky to come apart from each other( they were together) and then split all the earth(all the elements combined and fused) asunder thus creating the Universe. This is the only scriptural verse that is closest to science.
God did really create the Universe..Not only ours...but others.
Some reading by the French Scientish Maurice Bucaille did help me find some very astonishing scientific verses from the Koran...from embryology to Cosmology.

what about the apes? Close relatives of humans
How many children of Adam and Eve? about 6 billion at the last count.
Cain killing his brother? Murder
How did world start, go with big bang, does not exclude God (God could be the power of big bang)
Did God create the world? It is a matter of belief.

Adam was created from the dust of the earth, Eve was created from a rib from Adams side. Humans were created in the image of God not creation. God spoke creation into existence. God made man, meaning human beings. read the text God said "Let there be.." before he made everything else in creation other than human beings. He said what he made us out of. Evolution is a theory of man, there has never been any evidence that this theory is more than just a theory. They have never found their missing link. Adam and Eve lived very long lives. Cain was jealous of his brother and in a fit of rage killed him. As time progressed and more and more children grew up and had children of their own they moved across the earth. Human beings to not evolve they adapt. That is why our skin tans when we are out in the sun to long. Besides if we evolved from an ape why are there still apes? That is because we were created to have dominion over the earth and to subdue it animals included. Animals are not in the same level as humans. If you prefer to relate to an ape that is your business but I am a human being not a circus animal.

I also read some of Genesis, and discovered that when Adam and Eve had children, they bred there are passages filled with names of men, who they married, how many children they had and they always seemed to live to the age of 130 or more... there are passages about two daughters getting their father drunk and "laying with him" so lots of taboo here.
Then after all that, God decided that he'd made a mistake and that mankind should be wiped off the face of the earth, so he instructed Noah to make his Ark and save pairs of every animal (it seemed like a very short list of general creatures and none of these wild beasts ate Noah or his family (or any of the animals) due to hunger on the boat... they must have been very tame!
and that was only the beginning...
I will stick with science for now. The Bible although an interesting read doesn't feel right as a working theory of life.

If you don't know how it started, how do you know the Adam and Eve story is a myth?
There are holes in the time line given in the Bible. It never states that God didn't create other people.
You're asking a question only God can answer. He was the only one there.

In terms of the biblical story adam and eve gave birth to a third son a long time after Cain and Abel.
Can't remember his name but he was good.
The good son went one way and Cain went another and they both made cities and grew.
Then Cain's people bred with the fallen angels and populated the earth.
God brought the Floods to Kill all of Cains offspring and Save the Good son's descendents (Noah and his family) and so the populations was cleansed of Cain.
Obviously there's no conclusive proof about God/Accident but my money is with Big Bang and evolution.
But i find the Old testament really interesting.
In response to the person who wants to know why there are still apes -
We evolved from a common ancestor. At some point in time, as apes moved to different areas and the earth's climate changed, they began to adapt to new geographical environmental factors.
Such as type of vegetations - trees, shrubs, grass and adapt to their local situations by a process of natural selection which gave certain random occuring traits a greater importance in survival. For example greater manual dexterity, greater brain capacity, or longer life span. One of the greatest reasons for the development of the human race is the learning we got from grandparents in societies, when the life span reached a certain length.
From a single celled organism came all life.

I don't believe all that evolution stuff. It just doesn't make sense to me. I believe God created the world. I can't answer all your questions, but I can tell you that Adam and Eve had other children besides Cain and Abel. Seth was another son of Adam and Eve. Seth was an ancestor to Noah. As for Cain and Abel, Cain killed his brother because he was jealous.

According to the latest DNA research, there was an "EVE", a woman living in Africa, two hundred thousand years ago or so, from whom we are all descended. This theory is based on the study of mitochondrial DNA which is passed down only from the Mother.
For those who believe evolution is fiction, I would point out that before Darwin, no one doubted for a moment that evolution took place. There was no other way to explain the millions of species that Europeans were encountering as they explored (and exploited) the rest of the world. The incredible diversity of life could not have fit with Noah on the arc, so, for instance, and the different horse-like speicies in the world must have evolved from a platonic form horse that Noah had with him. So before Darwin, no doubted evolution, but were looking of ways to explain the mechanism of evolution. Once Darwin came up with Natural Selection, which seems to omit God from the equation, all sorts of objections began to pop up from those of an orthodox persuasion. Evolution is Fact. We can see it. We can see it in the mutation of insect species, virus and bacterial species, and even certain marine life (See the English Pepper Moth). These speices with observable evolution share a common trait; they go through hundreds of generations in a very short amount of time. Again, Evolution, which simply means change over time, is a fact. Whether or not Natural Selection is the main or only mechanism of evolution, and whether or not we are a product of evolution can be debated (although not very convincingly for my money).
Also, according to Darwin, there can be no "missing link". There are no transitional forms. Random mutation must create advantages in order to passed on. Each individual in a species, therefore, must be complete and functional as an individual, or it will not live to pass on its genes.
