Lots of things go into an expiration date. It could be this date because the drug isnt' as effective, or because it is broken down after so long, or because it would be contaminated by that time, or some other test they did when doing stability testing indicated that the drug product is not at its most potent or byproducts are being formed or anything out of the ordinary is happening. If you are thinking of taking them because you don't want to get a new prescription, just make sure they are within the expiration and that they are YOURS. Do not take someone elses bc. If you have already taken them likely you will not have a problem but stop taking them and consult your doctor or pharmacist anyway. You can remain anonymous too. Good luck to you and yours!
