Do you think all great artists eventually rise to the top and become known, or are there some that don't?

when the masses are brainwashes into thinking that Madonna and Birtney Spears are artists, then their brains can no longer appreciate masterpieces and great artists do get lost in the shuffle. But sometimes, the art is a healing and rewarding process for the artist and doesn't always require an audience.
