...he takes all the attention away from talking about us and starts commenting on people around constantly, the worst thing is he only sees the negative: points out how fat the waitress is or tells me to look at that table and those people.

How can I make him understand that he needs to focus his energies on talking about us when we go out ...instead of looking at other people and judging them?

He doesn't understand that I don't want to waste my time talking and listening to negative stuff he sees around, he can be using this time we are together to talk about "pretty things" sweet things and say nice things about me instead.

Sounds as though he has a problem with intamacy. He does not want to focus on a conversation with you so therefore he tries to find other things to get you focused on. Tell him how much it bothers you that he judges these people and that you want all of his attention on you.

Why don't you start a meaningful conversation with him (get the ball rolling). and it's not a intimacy issue... It's a attention issue and it may require you make him focus on you. Compliment him on something and talk about the good things in your relationship. That should get what you want without nagging or complaining. (making the night bad for both of you)

Some habit you've apparently encouraged in the past unintentionally? Act disinterested or as if you didnt hear and make no response when he picks on people. Took time to learn that habit and will take time to unlearn it. Grab a notepad or a book to engage yourself. If he's not getting your attention and asks you why...just tell him that when he starts making positive remarks about others or you...YOULL be ALL EARS. ;)

Talking about other people isn't necessarily a problem, I love people-watching. Sounds like the problem is his negativity.

Tell him you're tired of his negative comments, and ask him to stop.

Because when you're home there are no other people to focus on. Maybe you don't let him out enough.

well, where do we start with this one?.... It's quite worrying that you have to ask this question, as it clearly shows that perhaps you don't know him as well you thought you did.

As with most men, and I am one of them, he probably hasn't really grown up yet... what may be a serious issue in your eyes is probably considered trivial in his.

Try and catch the right moment at home alone, where he can't be distracted ....

best of luck.

proably because you make him feel low so he has to put others down to impress you, talk to him and tell him how those things make you feel.
