Having been in the flooring business, DuPont used to make fibers. They marketed to carpet manufacturers, in competition with other fiber producers.

The manufacturer in turn marketed to the retailers.

Retailers, in conjunction with fiber producers, through cooperative advertising allowances, marketed to the final consumer.

There is/was marketing of raw materials to the fiber producers, to use oil products as well as poly, and polyester products. At one time Kodak made a fiber, Kodell. UGHHHH! Horrible disaster. Damned near bankrupted Kodak.

i think what you are trying to ask is "consumer marketing" vis a vis "industrial marketing"

the basic marketing concept and purpose is the same...to have a right product and service to the right audience so that a purchase decision is made.

However the basi difference is between how you would do this for a consumer vis a vis an industrial organisation.

Consumer is usually an individual - who usually takes an informed / influenced / emotional step towards his/her buying process. His needs are mostly individual centric.

Industrial marketing on the other hand is marketing to a non-individual entitiy. It is marketing to a corporation / indutsry (i am assuming a generic meaning of the word "industrial"). It may be more complex and have different implications on the 4 P's of marketing:

1. Product - the product / service you are planning to sell

2. Price

3. Place - the distribution part of the equation - how r you going to get it in fron of the customer

4. Promotion

hope that briefly answers your question...

example: Consumer marketing: Soaps / clothes / toys / home electronis

Industrial marketing: Automotive spare parts sold to a car manufacturer, paper sold to a box manufacturer etc.
