Breaking the law is breaking the law, that's like saying shouldn't someone get a lesser charge if they rob a store at gunpoint because they wanted to get money to feed their family. It doesn't matter if they was only 1 or 2 yrs apart and it was consentual....He knew better but did it anyway is the way the courts will see it

Well I think that before the 21 year old slept with the girl he should have asked himself if he was willing to face the consequences. Statutory rape laws are in place to prevent younger people from being taken advantage of. Granted we all make our own decisions, the adult should know better than to even pursue it. I testified in my best friend's trial because she was 13 and the man she slept with was 22 and I was there. Being involve in a situation like that at the time I thought this is horrible that he is going to prison because we took part in it. Now as I sit here, 19 yrs old I see that we were taken advantage of because we weren't old enough to make an informed decision and personally I am glad the bastard is still rotting in jail for what he did.

Well, I have two different opinions...
1. The 21 year old KNOWS he's too old to be sleeping with someone under 17 or 18 (whichever is legal). He brought it on himself.
2. That little slut needs to keep her legs closed! It's not so much age that matters, but if she's one of those trifeling females who obsesses with getting older men in trouble for this, f her!
I started sexin' when I was 15, but not with guys THAT much older than me...at that time. When I was 19, I had an intimate relationship with a man that was 36, but we were really compatible.......AND I WAS LEGAL.
Little girls need to find love within before they go out trying to find an "older man" who had a life before she came along.

The law considers the facts that are relevant to the case. In the case you mention the fifteen year old is three years younger than the law permits for giving legal consent. Therefore the adult can't argue that the sex was consensual.
The law isn't flexible and your contention that the girl was promiscuous is irrelevant. Pretty soon you'll have child molesters claiming that their victim asked for it, etc.
The law is very severe in these matters and it is common knowledge that having sex with underage people has grave consequences.

I agree that he is wrong for messing around with a girl not old enough tp drive. There should be some repercusion, but I seriously doubt that he would get 20 years. Rapists don't even go away for that long. And btw, it doesn't matter how promiscuous she was prior to this boy, if was with kids her own age, its within the limits of the law.

The laws in America, are severe in applying them for anyone that breaks the Law. Even though, the girl was promiscuous, it does not mean that any men should take liberties with a minor, the guy was already an adult and should have known better, he should have thought twice in getting involved with her. There is no excuse on his part.

If he were 18 and she were 17, I'd agree, but he's 21 and should know better than being with a 15 year old, regardless of her history. Still, 20 years seems kinda harsh.

I think that 20 years is too harsh. Long sentences like that should be enforced when it is Rape not Statutory Rape. Maybe 1/4 that sentence in facility for sex offenders. People that have sex with minors need to know that just because they are promiscuous doesn't make it okay. Maybe some thing happened in there life to lead them to believe it is acceptable behavior. Also, remember children learn what they live.

Luckily, I've always been attracted to women older than me. It comes down to what the court decides, and presumably that decision was based on all the facts being considered by the judge. Judges are human too, they have their biases and prejudices, temperament, good moods, bad moods, and it really just comes down to what judge that that someone got. He could have gotten a different judge and a different sentence. If the girl seduced him, it doesn't seem fair that she gets absolutely no legal sanction while he goes to prison for 20 years. 20 f*n years!!!!??? Geez, just shoot me now.
