Absolutely dude, all the way!
Californians are the nicest americans because there is a very logical and practical explanation for that. Unlike most other states, California has immense diversity. People from all walks of life in terms of different cultures and backgrounds are present in great numbers in California. This the reason that there arent many people in California who would house prejudices or be baised towards a particular cultural group or ethnicity. Another less practical reason would probably be the fact that California has great bright sunny weather which brings about a lot of good cheer to the people who live there. There really isnt much "coldness" in the people here, figuratively or literally.

I have been to the US , in 1999 my daughter and I travelled from New York to LA by bus and train stopping and checking out all the sights along the way and we loved the country and the people. No one was horrible to us and no one hassled us in any way. All the Americans we met along the way were great. I live on Phillip Island just off the coast in south east Australia it is a lovely place , but I wouldn't say that Australians are any more friendly than Americans.

i think you jus met a specific group of californians. Because of the diversity of people living in california... there are many californians who don't discriminate and are friendly to all kinds of people. then of course there's the racist bastards from california who look negatively on everyone they see because they are so sick of diversity. so yeah... saying californians are the nicest americans is too vague. but yes, i do have to agree... most of us are very very nice =)

I'm going to assume you mean southern California, and not northern. They're very different.
I've spent time working in cities all over the US, and my experience of southern California people is that they tend to be superficially pleasant but not very genuinely so. You'll get a lot of "have-a-nice-day"s but I don't get the feeling that many people would help out a stranger in trouble. For that, you'd want to be in the Midwest.
I don't mean to say that everyone there is this way; it just seems to be the tendency.

No. The nicest Americans are the ones who think for themselves and don't buy into other peoples' prejudices and biases.
Although I like Washingtonians and Oregonians.
Actually, I've never met an American I disliked, although their opinions may have upset me once in a while.

Yes, Californians are nice people. But Texas has the friendliest people in the whole USA. Just good ole country folk who would give the shirt off their backs to people in need. Right after they invited you in for a good home cooked meal.

Most people I have met from California are very laid back, dude...like nothing can piss them off. They are also a little weird (I can say that because I've got family from there.)
The nicest Americans are from the South, sugar...come on down this way next time and enjoy our warm hospitality and weather!

We sholdn't generalise like this. Most californians I have met have been very nice, very open minded whereas most Texans have been uncouth, ignorant loudmouths. But that doesn't mean they are ALL like this, and I am mature enough to relise that all people are different.

I don't think any state has the nicest people. Every state has good and bad. Since the California has the highest population, however, they probably have the highest number of nice people of any state.
