i dont think karaoke should be about one-upmanship or trashing someone who cant sing...i think it should be about everyone having a good time.... how many do like karaoke, activley participate, and applaud ANY AND EVERY "performer"? and for those of you who participate give me your all time favorite karaoke song! :o).....and for the record - yes it is nice to have someone truly entertaining up there singing (even if its one in five)

I absolutely agree with you. I participate in karaoke at my local coffee shop every 1st and 3rd friday of the month. It's turned into a real "mom's night out" event too! I almost always do well and get goofy and have a good time. What most don't know is that I was a professional vocalist for many years and have performed all over the world in various venues including the '96 Olympics. I never share this with anyone and when the same guy who sings off key every weekend comes up to me and says "wow, you're really good. You should really think about getting into a band. I used to get up and sing with this band that performed at blah-blah-blah". I just smile and say "wow, that's great! You sure looked like you were having a great time up there." I like this place too because the people that get up there and actually say "I really suck" are the one's who get cheered the loudest. Our place applauds everyone and if you make fun of anyone you're asked to leave. My past as a pro is my little secret though. *grin*

Oh yah, and my faves to perform are Black Velvet and anything with power vocals by Kelly Clarkson because that's my exact range. I like a challenge.

New York, New York is great for karaoke, or if I had a Million Dollars for duets is fun too!

lower than no circumstances, many of the persons who sing karaoke discover it a thanks to precise their like to the guy they're with. that's a way of sharing their thoughts no longer surely with their significant different, yet all those who hear to them sing.
