I know this isn't *technically* a question, but I found this while surfing msn earlier. I wish I had found something like this when my sons were newborns!

I actually did recognize my son's cries when he was a newborn. It was clearly a MAAAAWW when he was hungry, and WAAAAAAH when he had to eliminate. I wish I'd known about Elimination Communication then. It would have been a whole lot easier to put him on a potty when I knew he needed to go instead of waiting until he was done and changing him!

Once you get to know your baby, you will be able to differentiate between the cries for a clean/dry diaper, food, attention, hurt, fear, etc. You won't even realize that you have done it because it kind of sneaks up on you. At least that how it happened with both my kids.

I've heard alot of people say no, but to be completely honest I can tell apart hungry, poopy and tired. When she's hungry it's a whiny cry, poopy it's a raise the hair on your arms cry and tired is the plain crying.

I can tell about 70% of my baby's cry since he was 2 months old. There are whinning, hungry, uncomforable, hurt, tired, and wants mommy or daddy......just when you with him all day and find out the reason why he cried, after a while, usually you can tell a little bit

You will come to recognize your babies different cries. Longer wails normally mean hunger, short cries mean uncomfortable and need a diaper change, the type of cry where they hold their breath mean I dont feel good.....you will get to know these cries as time goes by because you hear them often! :-)

I couldnt at first but after like say 4 months it became clear to me. She outright screams when she's hungy, she's whiny when she's tired, she cries lightly on and off when she is bored, she really doesnt care if she's wet I just have to change her every few hours.

My baby cries before she pees and poos. I'm disappointed the article didn't mention that, because that is a fairly common reason why newborns cry.

When my son is hungry for baby food he cries loudly, when he is tired its more of a moan/weeping cry, and when he wants to nurse it is a constant soft cry.

As a mom, I was always able to tell if my son was crying because he needed something, or just because he needed to cry. It helped that he didn't cry very often, but it was very distinct. Ic ould distinguish his hungry cry from his I'm dirty cry.
