I say that the Greatest American President of all-time is George Washington because he is "The Father of This Country." Do you have any feedback on that?

I would say either Lincoln for freeing the slaves or FDR for getting us out the depression and seeing us through WWII.

While George Washington is the father of our country and is an extremley important figure in our history that does not make him the greatest president of all time by default. What is the right answer to your question? I think there are a few presidents worth consideration however there are two men that rise two the top. Abraham Lincoln is hard to argue with in many regards for the simple fact that without his leadership through a very tough time in our history we would be looking at a very different nation today. Can you imagine there being a seprate confederate nation ? Is Lincoln the answer then? I submit that the greatest President of all time is no other that Ronald Reagan. Is that debatable ? yes. However when Reagan came into office inflation was through the roof and the Soviet Union was a very serious threat to our freedom. Fast forward, the economy went through the roof, the soviet union toppled under it's own weight and the berlin wall came tumbling down. There is one thing I would say to him if I had the chance. " I love you man ".

Ronald Reagan was the greatest American President during my lifetime. He was able to win the cold war and brought the Soviet Union to its knees.

However, I must agree that George Washington was indeed a great President. The first few presidents actually served this country instead of their own agenda.

Jimmy Carter was probably the most moral president during my lifetime.

Abraham Lincoln would probably rate as one of the most conflicted Presidents ever. Did he actually put the events in motion that caused the Civil War or was it just being in the wrong place at the wrong time ? He is often credited with freeing the slaves, but the proclamation actually only freed the slaves in the states that voted to secede from the union.
He was a poor man, and he often failed at his endeavors.

I guess the answer to this question depends upon your perception of "great".

The jury is still out on Reagan, who himself issued an order that no monument be built in DC to honor a President until 25 years after that President died.

Washington was probably the only person who could hold the federal government together. Imagine if the 13 colonies became 13 independent countries.

I don't think there was any ONE "greatest" American President -- there were several great ones.

Most of my list has been mentioned here, but conspicuously missing is Theodore Rosevelt. The first great environmentalist (he established the national parks system), the man whop propelled the US into being a major world power, a figure who overcame many many obstacles to become "larger than life" -- the ultimate American.

Washington was the greatest for that we all know, But there is another we must bestow, he is Roosevelt...teddy was his name.
and Fighting was his game.....

If it wasn't for Ted we would be working all hours of the week, the Steel & oil barons the ship magnates would all still have the gain. We would all be poppers in some inane game that the Democrats would be playing on our name.

Ted was a Republican as was Lincoln, and as Washington is often called the "Father of his Country." His devotion to republicanism and civic virtue made him exlemplorary.

I agree with you, since he invented the role, really.
There have been some wonderful presidents, Lincoln, both Roosevelts, Carter (by what he didn't do) and Clinton, for his diplomacy even tho he was a joke at home.
I would have taken the smut-king Kennedy, just to get Jackie; she was a real asset to our country.
Some were downright dangerous, including our current Idiot-in- Chief, Nixon, and Jackson.

Washington was a great President because he didn't want the job, but recognized that he was the only person who could succeed as President at the time. He was a true public servant, and we haven't had any of those in a long time.
