Do you think anything should be done about 'news shows' driving for ratings?

Instead of informing they drive for ratings and are sensationalist. They carry the same stories and E or Jerry Springer. What should be done?!?

Stick to watching the news on PBS, your publiv station. I no longer watch network news cause its all about ratings. You get much more datailed and unbiased coverage on PBS.

What can be done? Not much, the people that are involved in the production of these shows should be more responsible and stick to reporting the facts. The problem is that they are looking for ratings so they can sell advertising and stay in business. I don't think the government has the right to step in as long as they are not making up stories even though most of what is reported is slanted one way or another.

Please, darling, no more laws! We have enough to last for eternity. Besides, "freedom of the press, freedom to express" and so forth, is one of the God-given rights we have in this country.

Change can come about in another very important way. People will eventually drop the television, anyway. But for now, we can write letters and organize groups to noisily express our objections. Buy products that sponsor the shows you like, and let the other sponsors know you are unhappy and why.

Wait til the Democrats get back in office. They are going to pass laws that will make it impossible to hold a journalist liable for anything. Then we will really have cause to cry.

Ratings mean viewers. Viewers mean advertising. Advertising means profits. Simple as that. Unfortunate, but the news programs are 50% news and 50% show biz and the networks are in the business to make money.

Yes. People should quit watching them. As long as sensationalism sells, news shows will keep using it.
