The American mafia had huge power since the 1860's and still does. The average American enjoys watching "The sopranos" a show about a bunch of gangsters. America's abandonement of the English and French cultures, has proven them to be loud, rude disrespectful, and violent. There are many of nice and kind Americans but they are starting to become a minority. In England and France they do not have a mafia equivalent because they did not have huge waves of immigrants who brought their gangs with them, IE Italians came to this country and brought the mafia with them.

As an American who lives in the Midwest, I find your generalizations to be extremely offensive! I think that the reason people watch "The Sopranos" is for entertainment reasons and because the majority of Americans are not directly, personally affected by the mafia. Yes, they do have a stronghold and I am not naive enough to say that they do not affect this country but it's not like I live next door to gangsters! And why do we have to adhere to other countries cultures? This is after all, a melting pot, made up of immigrants from many other countries, just not England and France. I have to say, when I have gone out of the USA to visit foreign countries, as a rule, I found the Europeans were the rudest to the hotel staff (or ANY staff). True, the Americans seemed to have the unruliest children, but I can take that over an ADULT that treats staff and other visitors like subserviants any day. If you are an American unhappy in this country, please find a new home elsewhere in the world. If you are a visitor to this country, please do not return. Americans are probably the most generous people in the world and since 9/11 I have lost patience with always being the "Bad Guy" in the world. Have a nice day! :)

I don't think immigration is the problem with the country right now. The problem right now is illegal immigration and the stance the government has taken on it. The laws aren't enforced, and the US has become a place to sneak into....sell your drugs, or work for low wages so that you steal jobs from Americans, or just be lazy and slovenly and drag areas of the host country down to slum status. So much American money is funnelled south into Mexico right now, it is astounding. Nah, Italians are a positive, contributing part of our country. It is small minority of them that are in the mafia. And at least they immigrated legally. I think you should worry about the illegals streaming across the border from mexico and the problems they are causing before you worry about any other ethnic group.

the English and French cultivated gangs to the New York area in the late 1800s...so what's your point..you're going to blame Italians for the Mafia.? Over in Italy the Italians are trying very hard to get rid of the Mafia for years...Their leaders have been killed for trying to liquidate gang activity...

Well, on the positive side, they opened small businesses and worked in the factories and fields. Their contributions to our economy and culture have been significant.
Organized crime exists almost everywhere, and is not necessarily the result of immigration.
