Almost definitely.
Bearing in mind that this is tax payer's money being spent, which is already thinly spread as it is, I think that he should have to reimburse the emergency services for failing to make a very simple phone call that could have avoided all this.
Also remember that the RNLI is a charity, and let's be honest, it is almost as if he was stealing from then, although for no personal gain, it was absolute wasted money. People should have to face the consequences of making reckless and stupid decisions like he did.

Of course. While the RNLI were out looking for him, there could have been another, genuine, emergency going on which was endangered by this stupid prat. If he wants to have an affair, so be it, but let's face it, he's not exactly the brightest spark is he? He'll probably make loads of money now telling his story. His wife's better off without him.

This guy was a trained diver although the sea can be very unpredictable i don't think it would be fare to charge him for what had happened.
If he had been a cockle picker then it would be a different story.

yes he should: imagine if there was other people out there and services were dramatically reduced because of this prick.
Although saying that, I found the whole thing quite funny when I heard it on the radio.
I hope his wife makes him beg for forgiveness!

If he was lying yes. But why did he do it? I feel extremely sorry for his family worrying all that time about him when he was safe and well and could have let them know.
