The American mafia had huge power since the 1860's and still does. The average American enjoys watching "The sopranos" a show about a bunch of gangsters. America's abandonement of the English and French cultures, has proven them to be loud, rude disrespectful, and violent. There are many of nice and kind Americans but they are starting to become a minority. In England and France they do not have a mafia equivalent because they did not have huge waves of immigrants who brought their gangs with them, IE Italians came to this country and brought the mafia with them.

Pride, simple pride and a lot of old fashioned racial prejudice.
The mafia is dying out. To many of the king pins have fallen to prison sentences or themselves (Playboy August 2006).
This whole flack over immigration is just a thin disguise for simple racial prejudice. Hispanics have overtaken blacks as the largest minority in the US. Some people feel threatened by this so they fight against it.
If we were so worried about terrorists then we would just build a wall and be done with it. We wouldn't have so many local governments trying to outlaw them; especially governments that aren’t near the border. Terrorists aren't going to pay a coyote and brave 3 days travel in the desert, hauling 5 gallons of water just to get into the US. They will use passports (fake or real) to fly into the US in comfort and style. If that route is closed to them then they have the world's largest unguarded border to cross. A trek from Canada south into the US would be safer and a whole lot easier and more covert.
As for the Italian Americans, yes they brought the Mafia with them, but they brought a whole lot more great people who made helped to make America great. The stereotype of an illegal Hispanic worker is that of a hard working person trying to improve their lives and the lives of their families. This sounds a lot like every other immigrant that has come to America.
Illegal aliens don't pay income taxes, but then they don't get much income anyway. The do pay sales tax, gas tax, and if they get a decent job then they do pay income tax, through withholding.
To stop the huge Hispanic invasion we need to set up a liberal guest worker program and regulate it. Many illegal aliens are only migrant workers, living in Mexico. They would not mind crossing the border, and getting a passport is a lot cheaper than paying a few thousand to a coyote so they can make a dangerous trek across the desert with a possibility of being sent back and having the entire trip a wasted effort.
If the Hispanic Migrant workers were really taking jobs from Americans then we wouldn’t have an orange shortage this year, caused by a lack of workers to simply pick the oranges before they rot on the tree. Look at the other jobs they are willing to take Fast Food jobs and the like. These are some of the lowest paying jobs in America and the only people they are competing with are High Schoolers and the very poor. We have job programs that can help our people get better jobs and we have built out economy on finding other people to do the jobs we don’t want to do ourselves. We are hardly the first nation to do this or the only nation to suffer problems from it. But at least we aren’t having to face an invasion of Muslims who hate us or former Communists. All we have to face are people who just want a piece of the American Dream for themselves, not a big piece, just enough to help their family. These people don’t hate America and haven’t been our enemies since Texas first fought for its independence. I can’t think of better immigrants to have.

stupid *** what about chinese mafia which if you knew anything is actually the worst. mexican mafia they are ruff to.boy you dont get out much spend some time off of answers. theres more mafias that are bigger than italian. itlaian doesnt have the pull it use to. or is it big.they all come here and bring there **** with them.

There were Irish gangs, African gangs, and now there are a lot of Latino gangs. Has nothing to do with immigration, that is just a lack of respect.
