Avoid saving really big files, such as WAV files and other uncompressed media files. Move files that you want to save off your laptop and onto an external hard drive or recordable CDs. Go though your folders in My Documents and delete anything you don't need or want. Then empty your Recycle Bin. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options... > and click on the "Delete Files" box in the middle of the window. This will delete all your temporary Internet files (such as JPGs, GIFs and other images) that you acquire as you surf the Web.

Finally, delete any software that you don't use. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel and open Add/Remove Programs. If you see something in there that you are sure you don't want (such as a game you never play), delete it.
