I have just moved into a new rented house, and the garden is a tip , so when I got home from work I dicided to clear it out a bit, whilst doing this I unknowingly picked up the top off a Wasps nest (it's lucky I had gardening cloves on) there are thousands of wasps in it. anyway my question is this. Do I have to pay for the exterminator to get rid of it, Or is it the responsibility of the Landlord?
Please no spam as this is really important I have two small children and I need to get this mess sorted as soon as possible so they can play in the garden.
Thanxs in advance

I not sure how things work in UK, but, although I think it would be the Landlord's responsibility to rid the place of pests, particularily since you just moved in, it really depends on your written rental agreement. You do have a rental agreement, don't you? For safety, If the Landlord balks, I'd get an exterminator, and try to collect later. Good luck!

Most likely it is the landlord's responsibility to call the exterminator to take care of the wasp's nest. However, you can call the exterminator yourself, and have them do it, and you can present the bill to the landlord, and it will be deducted from your rent. If this happened to me, I would call the exterminator with or without the landlord's knowledge, and have it deducted from my rent, because I am allergic to bee/wasp stings. You live on that property, and whether you own it or not, you can most defineatly all the exterminator, especially when you have two small kids.

In a rental situation the landlord is ususally responsible for the outside repairs, or major repairs inside,, he is also resposible for the garden, unless there is a contract to say, you, the tenent is reposible.
Some landords deduct some rent money if the the tenent cut and looks after the garden.

I would think the Landlord is responsible. It's his property not yours. I own 11 houses and if I got a call from a tenant, I would take care of it.
