Queensland covers a huge area so not all the beautiful things are within easy reach. For example, it is a 2 day drive from Brisbane to Cairns.
I would recommend a state capital initially. Sydney is too expensive but a great place. Melbourne could be good, and I couldn't split Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide. I wouldn't really know about Darwin, Hobart and Canberra.
Do you have an immigration visa before you get too carried away?

Hi Sassy,
Australia is vast so answering your question is not easy.
I guess it all depends where you are coming from and what sort of weather you are used to.
Perth is a great place to raise children. It is growing and many young families are building there. The lifestyle is relaxed and it is a pretty safe environment. Living costs are good and beaches are beautiful as well. Weather is mild in winter and can be pretty hot, like Queensland, in summer.
Just thought I'd give you another option.
Hope it helps, good luck.

Depending on what part QLD u want to be Gold coast is beautiful tho expensive, out skirts of Brisbane, like Beenleigh, Browns Plains, Logan are cheaper. prices on sunshine coast vary. You could go further up like Bundaberg which is cheap very pretty has wildlife parks, Bundaberg Rum factory. Most of Qld is beautiful growing more each day. Ive been here For 13 years There istill reasonable places on Goldcoast you can rent 2bd room apartments at Labrador, Mudgereeba for around $190 week. Goldcoast we have Sea world, Dream world, .Wet & Wild, Moovie World, also currumbin wildlife sanctuary, The Hinterlands much more.Plus golden beaches blue chrystal water all along Qld coast line.

I live on the gold coast and its great. Gold coast is defintly the place for you. There is lots to do here and im sure it would make a good place for your son as there are 4 theme parks. There are also great beaches and good weather. Gold coast is about 30min-1hr drive to brisbane.
An area which may be suitible for you is the Varsity Lakes area, housing isn't too expencive and it is close to everything. Varsity also has a good junior and high school which could be good for your son.
Here's a website about Varsity- http://www.varsitylakes.com.au

Melbourne - We've got it all. And it was voted the most livable city in Melbourne. It's good because even if you're in the suburbs it only takes a short train or bus ride to get into the city centre.

I live in Melbourne and it is great.
I'd move to Brisbane in a heartbeat. More sun, cheaper living costs, but less earnings to be had.
