All piercings have some risk of infection. This is more of a safer one, like an ear piercing but there is a minuscule chance of some airborne virus to enter and the very second the needle is going through causing an infection to get into the blood. Google piercing horror stories, there are a lot.

If you go to a reputable piercer who sterilizes everything and uses single use needles, the piercing is safe. But you also need to keep up with correct aftercare and take care of the piercing. In general, a navel piercing can take between 6-12 months or longer to heal so you have to be committed to keeping up with the aftercare for the entire time your piercing is healing.

Don't let the thought of pain scare you off. Some people will say it hurt so badly they passed out, others will say it didn't hurt at all (I was one of the ones that barely felt a thing).

Really take time to research your piercer, aftercare and dangers before you get the piercing done. The APP (Association of Professional Piercers) has wonderful information on choosing a piercer and the most up to date aftercare (anyone who tells you to use alcohol, peroxide or Bactine is way out of date on their aftercare). Their website is at http://www.safepiercing.org. Another place that I found tons of great information is http://p196.ezboard.com/fbodypiercingtattooingandbodymodificationfrm28.

Good luck.

I have 3 navel piercings and a nipple one, the nipple one is more painful then the navel for sure. The thing with those piercings is that they might have healing problems, like rejection. These are the places where there is the most irritation on the body; when you wear clothes, bras, sleep... So when you get pierced, remember to ask to have bio-jewelry that is implant graded so your body accepts it better. The nipple hurts more because there is more blood circulation and more nerve endings, but both of the piercings are worth it.

I had two done which both ended up not working as i found out after my body was illergic to the metal they use for the bar or ring. no matter how clean i kept it my body just would not take to the new thing i was trying to add. so make sure you can have it as some people cant and you need to get peirced with a gold one instead. I did in the end and it was fine. But i dont have one now but the hole is still there to put one back if i want to as you have to keep putting it back to make sure the hole does not close up. Its the same as if you get your ears peirced just hurts more

they freeze the spot with a spray for it to go numb so you dont feel it going in but make sure you are standing up when they peirce you and mark the holes otherwise they dont get an even line as you will be standing mostly when you were it. i was told that the second time i was peirced as the first one did it when i was lying down and it wasnt centred. also make sure they use a clamp.

be aware it will hurt for a while after but it wont when they do it and to clean it go with what they suggest dont use anything with lots of chemicals in as it will be to harsh on the skin and get infected and try to wear loose clothing with nothing touching the area and at night a cotton tshirt so that nothing rubs against it while you sleep.

have fun it looks good when it heals with a simple jewel. but if you plan to have kids in the future make sure you take it out. cos the tummy stretches ouch!!!

yes it is safe to get a navel piercing.. but do some homework and go to a good place with a well reputation of doing good work.

it does not hurt, but i dont know if you have a high or low tolerance for pain. it depends on the person.. and yes follow instructions on how to clean it so it does not become infected

lastly.... enjoy your new navel piercing

Yes, keep it clean. Follow your aftercare instructions. Make sure that the place you choose to get your piercing uses sterile procedures. It does hurt a bit (not intensely though), plan on wearing low-rise jeans, or soft comfy sweat-pants while you heal.

Just go to a professional and ask lots of questions.
Questions you should ask:
Can I see your portfolio? (if they don't have one leave)
What method of sterilization do you use? (autoclave, and or cold sterilization chemical)
Do you use a new needle for each client? (yes)
Do you give out written aftercare instructions? (yes)
Is the Jewelry internally threaded? (yes)

And anything else you can think of, If at any point they do not know the answers to your questions or don't want to answer you leave and go to someone who cares enough to take the time to talk to you about your piercing.

I have one and there is no problems with it. Just make sure the person knows what they are doing and that they use clean and sterile instruments and you will be fine. I forgot make sure that you clean it so it won't get infected.. You will love it.....Good Luck.

it is completely safe as long as you go somewhere that uses a New Needle every time. Mine hurt and i took it out cause it started to get infected. that was my fault. just be sure to keep it clean and have fun with it!
