I got it from a college professor, hes about a year old. I have basking light, platform, filter, everything is right temperature, i know about turtles, just dont know why he isnt eating. I've tried turtle food, crickets, worms, hotdogs(professor feed him that), and hes still not eating for some reason and its been around 2 weeks now.

Try canned cat food. Stinky but my picky turtle would chow down on it... Also might try putting some small feeder fish in the water...

Is he basking properly. Are you sure you have the proper temps RES require tanks to be around 75 degrees in water and around 85 degrees on basking platform, The biggest reason RES's don't feed is they are too cold. What size is the turtle and what size is the tank. I have a full grown female. My tank is a tad small but suitable for now it's 75 gallons. RES's require alot of clean water to swim in they are aquatic and ONLY feed in water. Last but not least how active was the turtle when you got it. Are they eyes clear? Nose? Is the shell look good, no spots, Hard all over, If she shows any of the symptoms above cloudy eyes, runny nose, soft shell,or shell with spots. Get her to a vet. If you can't afford a vet go to www.repticzone.com. Hope this helps. any other questions feel free to contact me.

I had this same problem, but mine is less than a year old, so I'm not sure if it will work... still, I'll try and give you all the help you can get

With my turtle, he wouldnt eat turtle pellets of any sort, even after I broke them up smaller. I tried everything from half a pellet to powder, but he wouldnt have it. What did work however, was fish food - betta food to be exact. After a few days of not eating, he gorged himself on that. However, I didn't like the idea of feeding a turtle fish food, so slowly I worked freeze dried shrimp into his diet, mixing it with the flakes. I also mixed in small chunks of turtle pellet and he eats that too, now.

The problem may be that he's unfamilliar with the food, but seeing as you tried to feed him the hot dogs he's used to (I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one :P), maybe that's not the case. Anyway, try fish food, if he doesn't go for it, you can't say you didn't try :D

PS: You know turtles right? so you should know they only eat in the water? Just thought I'd make sure.

Some turtles stop eating for a while and decide to eat again when it feels like it. I thought it was only my turtle but oviously im wrong. But he can be adapting to his new home or mabey he's sick and needs to go 2 the vet. Don't freak out, my turtle stopped eating for a month and he eventually ate, when he was ready.
