You might suggest a light face scrub. I have found the St. Ives Apricot Scrub to be the best. It isn't harsh on the skin and the medicated (white tube) really helps clear problems up quickly. The craters are signs of a major acne problem and may never go away as it is scaring. But the oil and puss problem sounds like his skin is way out of balance.
Perhaps he eats a lot of greasy foods and sodas? Bad foods can cause incredibly greasy skin - it is a fact for those who think it can't. There is a direct corelation to what you take into your body and what comes out of your pores.
He might want to increase his water intake, which washes impurities out of the system.
There is also some stuff you can find at Wal-mart even called Tea Tree Oil. It is oil, but it has an interesting effect on oily skin of drying it out. It takes very little of this stuff to work. Comes in a little bottle that is brown, in the 'herb' section. You can also find it at a health store.
The scrub will help the ingrown hairs more than you think. The smell is likely coming from the oils.
Hopefully you can find a way to help him out, he likely knows about his problem, and sometimes you can get away with being a little 'girly' and showing him how to fix the problem.
Good luck!

Oh wow...he really needs to get on a strict daily cleansing regimine. The key to having good skin is to cleanse daily even when your skin is wonderful and smooth. That way, imperfections will not be as likely to develop. But in his situation, just help him out--go to his house and show him how to thoroughly cleanse his face (he needs to do so nightly right before bed as well as when he wakes up every morning)--try Noxema, Proactiv, or Clean and Clear. These are the best cleansers out there. If nothing else, he needs to go to a dermatologist, ASAP.

His problem is not regular acne. The only other thing I can think of that has pus and smells bad are boils. Boils are usually large, though and they will appear on the face as well as other parts of the body. Your friend needs to see a dermatologist right away.
To RK: Your comment was needless and ignorant.

when I first were given my canines, I had a similar situation. After some weeks, I took him to the vet and positioned out he had separation stress. I were given some medicine for him and interior 2 weeks, the concern stopped. i'd advise taking him to the vet to be certain if it really is the reason. it would merely be that your canines change into no longer proper bathroom experienced earlier you acquire him and doesn't understand that's incorrect. At maximum puppy shops you could purchase sprays that both deter or encourage canines to pee and champagne. purchase both and upload countless the detterent into some boiling water and mop the flooring with it. you could also spray the different out the back close to the door. even if this does no longer paintings with all canines, it ought to help yours.

it seems like a severe case of acne to me, try getting him to take flax oil seeds/gel capsules, it works on a ton of stuff, acne, psoriasis, constipation, weight loss, and probably more, but I don't know off hand. I know it works, because it worked for me.

Your biggest problem is being a white girl hanging out with black guys. And letting them hug you. Don't you know they ALL smell like that?
