I hear Rush Limbaugh and other conservative voices decrying Scooter Libby's indictment because it was for a "process crime" that wouldn't have taken place if not for the investigation in the first place.

Um, isn't that what Bill Clinton got impeached for?
He lied under oath about Monica Lewinsky, which also wouldn't have happened if they hadn't had the investigation in the first place.

The difference is that Clinton was President and he took an oath of office. Presidential indiscretions - and the Presidents who try to keep them quiet - set this country up for extortion on a grand scale. There were plenty of people decrying the Clinton impeachment saying that the affair was his private business; however, it should be noted that when one becomes President, he is no longer a "private" figure...he is a "public" figure. The cost of the power is to forfeit one's private life...it's part of the deal. As such, they should be held to a higher standard.
