I was about to attend BYU until I saw this. Men are seriously not allowed to wear sandals, caps, or regular t-shirts? No "faded, frayed, or holes" on your jeans....no 5-oclock shadows....WHAT A JOKE!

I thought we were done with this in highschool.

We should be able to wear what is most comfortable...

What you are complaining about is just part of the honor code. There are other aspects of this code as well. You are not allowed to drink coffee, tea, or alcohol. You are not allowed to smoke. You are also not allowed to have sex with someone to whom you are not legally married.

However, allong with these restrictions also comes a significant amount of freedom. This freedom comes from the trust that is extended to the students by the school. When I was a student there, it was not uncommon for the Professors to hand out tests and then leave the room to go back to their offices and work on something else. (This was especially true of my upper level classes.) They could do this because they trusted us not to cheat and we were honest enough to not abuse that trust.

As Wolfcub wrote, it is because of the honor code that byu is so well respected. Our alumni consitently rate high when it comes to ethics. If you are not willing to live by the rules, the BYU is not the school for you. Personally, I loved my time there and I miss being there. In many ways, I would not mind go back there to teach.

I'm at BYU Idaho (stricter with the Honor Code than the other BYUs are), and none of the guys here complain about it.

Our Honor Code is one of the reasons BYU is such a respected school...

If you didn't know about that part of the Honor Code you probably didn't know that there is also a curfew for the students to be home by 12:00 school nights as well as Satuday night and 1:00 later on weekends. And that you have to have a LDS Bishop's Endorsement to go to that school...

I doubt you would be able to go... very few Non-LDS people get in.

You can at most secular schools, but BYU is run by a conservative religion (LDS) who have their own standards. If you can't see yourself doing this, BYU is probably not the right school for you anyway.

Men should wear suits, if no jacket the tie is a must, if they wear a jacket they can skip the tie.
Gotta shave every day.
No sandals.
No long hair.
No rings but the wedding ring.
No bracelets.
No necklaces.

For the women:
litlle makeup
no fancy earrings
yes sober jewelry.
pantyhose all year long, even in AUGUST when it's boiling hot.

What is BY? brigham young? (sp?)
Isn't that a mormon school?

Any school affiliated with religion has more restrictions than going to a state university.

Wear what you want. What are they going to do?
Paddle you with a ruler in public? hahahaha

Maybe they are just trying to prepare you for "the real world", or maybe they just have no fashion sense or need for comfort.
