There have been stories about the increase in autism and yesterday there was a story linking it to older fathers, but not older mothers. The chance of giving birth to an autistic child increased 5 times if the father was older.
So you would study the age of parents and grandparents when giving birth to see if parents were older. Also you could survey the parents of students with autistic spectrum disorder to see if the father was older. You could compare the age of these fathers with the age of the other fathers.
When doing the research it would be tactful just to say you are comparing parents age with grandparents age.
The age of parents when they gave birth to your classmates and the age of their grandparents when they gave birth to your classmate's parents.
