Does not follow. Gravity is a restraint, of sorts, and there is much investigation going on now to try to determine if there is enough mass to cause the universe to stop expanding one day and collapse. But gravity is not caused by the restraint -- it IS the restraint.

I suppose you're talking about the universe as a closed system as the condition that keeps the thermodynamic laws and laws of matter and energy giving out right answers. I'd say the concept is constructed; now the universe--that's the mystery. It is vanity to say we've got it all figured out already. I'm not an expert, but in the attempt of string theory to reconcile gravity and quantum mechanics, isn't there something like 11 dimensions and many parallel universes required to make it work? I'd say these terms like "closed system" are just assumptions physicists make in order to create a workable model on which to base the mathematical aspects of different theories.

Watch this video its quite interesting view of the universe, watch the whole things, there is some humor in places, but I guarantee its worth the watch.
Hubble video worth your time.

we only know what we individually, and as a group have experienced .ebb and flows of consistencies within the measure realm of time and space, the variables of expansion and contraction, of motion reflect perception, transfer of perception, and recollection of motion ,mass states, and identificational and interpretational systems,,,,it is that which was, is, and yet to be,and maybe that which has been.is the universe a recollection backwards or forward or both
