Did Neo die?..And if he did, did he sacrifice himself so that Agent Smith would have to die too....hence, maintaining the order of good and evil..and keeping things in balance? So, does that mean if Neo came back to life...then Smith would too?

Neo was the anomaly that was recurrent throughout all versions of the Matrix. Each time the Matrix was re-created, an anomaly like him was created. Smith was sort of like a computer virus and could not be controlled by the machines, the same way a virus gets into a computer and screws everything up but the computer itself can do nothing to correct the problems. Neo had to become him to destroy him. Bringing Neo back wouldn't necessarily bring back Smith because they weren't the same. I admit it's really confusing. I read into it after seeing the movie three times and still being confused. "The One" program was created in an effort to save the last city and all the people who were unplugged from the Matrix. By killing the virus (Smith), Neo served his purpose by saving Zion, and was no longer needed. So he didn't really die, he fullfilled his part of the prophecy by ending the war, which is what he was created for.

I gotta be honest with you. I hated the 2nd and 3rd versions and ended up falling asleep on Revolutions. And was so disappointed that I didn't try to finish it. I'm sorry.
