1984 part # 12100-KA9-680
1999 part # 12100-KN4-750
12100 is Honda's prefix for cylinders, KA9 & KN4 are the model designations for the first units the part was used on. The last three numbers identify the specific part.
I don't have my referance book here to give you the exact models the middle three numbers those specific codes are for, but the only difference in the XR100 cylinders is the color. The early models were black, the later ones silver.
Bolt it up.

Yes. The engine in the xr100 hasn't changed since it has been introduced. Honde never saw any reason to change it. It is smooth, reliable, and peppy. Perfect for the market they are intended for.

No. My job is as the parts manager at the local Honda dealership, and I get asked this question all the time, and the answer is no. If in doubt, call your local dealer, they can look on their microfiche and tell you in a bout 2 minutes.
Good luck.

Maybe.
They both use the same pistons
The gaskets are the same - so they'll line up.
The cam chains are the same - so the height is the same.
The dowl pins (to line up the cyl) are the same.
The cyl & crankshafts are different part #s - might just be improved models or materials.

I would think they were the same but the part #'s don't match up. Unless the 84 part # gets superceeded to the newer part # when you order it. I've seen that happen.
