mythology is one of the most misused terms in our language. I am just curious what most people think of when they hear this term.

I think of Greek mythology. You know, Jason, the Gorgon, Medusa, Prometheus, Sisyphus, the list is long and colorful, and highly imaginative. I suppose you can also include the Egyptian Sun God, Ra, and, well, just about any imaginary "being" with magical powers that controls the destiny of all things.

Usually I thing of favorite stories that everybody knows, especially really old ones like Persephone & Hades and Adam & Eve

As a Joesph Campbell fan I guess I'm overeducated on the term "mythology"

I used to think about the Greek and Roman myths. Then I took a mythology class. Now I think of any religion, folklore, and tall-tale.

I think of a story or legend about divine or heroic beings or supernatural events, usually from a particular culture or religion, such as Celtic or Greek, passed down thro' the generations, originally by speech rather than written.

Well you asked what most people think - I don't know what most people think. What I think of is stories that grew out of events within a particular area with a particular group of people to explain life experiences or to teach a lesson.
